Spotlight on Eden Alene - Israel 2020/21

Israel's entry, Eden, is an enormous fan of Eurovision herself. In February 2019, she released a cover of “Save your kisses for Me”, the UK winner for 1976:

Eden Alene, who is of Israeli-Ethiopian descent, was selected to represent Israel in 2020 through an intense televised National Final called “The Next Star for Eurovision”, consisting of several challenging rounds to the Final.

Due to Eurovision 2020 being cancelled due to the Coronavirus pandemic, Eden was selected internally by the Israeli broadcaster to represent her country in 2021. She will be the first solo artist of Ethiopian origin ever the grace the Eurovision stage.

The 2020 song, 'Feker Libi' (or 'My Love') has a very infectious afro-arab beat, and was written by two of Israel’s top song writers, Idan Raichel (who provided the interval act on Grand Final Night 2019) and Doron Medalie, who wrote previous Eurovision entries, Toy (2018), Made of Stars (2016) and Golden Boy (2015). Here is Eden joined with other singers at the National Final singing covers of past Israeli entries:

The lyrics of Feker Libi actually include four languages – English, Hebrew, Arabic and Amharic (an Ethiopian Semitic language). The song was selected out of a group of four, by a combination of a public televote and professional jury.

Let's hope she can bring the same energy and diversity to her track for 2021!
